I learnt that the best
way to enjoy your life is to be in your own place. Discover the places
you belong to, some places where your talent, hobby and interest are
appreciated. Life is good, if you could find your own ecosystem where
your knowledge, ability and potential are precious to your chosen
community. If you like to cook, find your place. If you like to paint,
find your place. If youre a nerd and
dreaming to marry your book or code, find your place (of course, I am
not suggesting for you to sleep with your laptop - that would be weird).
The thing is, Indonesia has not yet been the ideal place to grow equally for everybody or to certain subject of interests. It is pity to see many talented people have to live in the way they dont want to, just so they can survive, accepted by the society and pay the bills. They are smart and excel in math and sciences, but they are provided with limited facility, i.e. no fancy lab, no budget for research; and living as a scientist in Indonesia cant even sustain the life of their family. They could paint beautifully, but people barely remember their name and their paintings can only worth way less than a used iphone. Some young prodigies can play musical instruments magically but they are forced to drop their dreams because their parents dont have money to pay for the extra school. Some other people are book nerds, they (like and need to) read a lot, they know many things happened in the world, but having no body to discuss with, no audience to talk to. Some people are computer geeks, but having no body to understand their needs and what it takes to hone the skills. Some of these talented people even forgot their own potential and what dreams that they deserve to pursue, because they have been living in an environment that is just not a good influence to them or they just happened to be surrounded by certain people whose activities and interest would do nothing but diverting their attention and focus away from their vision.
So, discover your potential, appreciate your self value and find your place. I believe, nothing is impossible. When there is a will, there is a way. If you cant dream big enough, better wake up and help your mom washing the dishes.
